“I’m just waiting to start my business until my life is more stable.”
“I’m just waiting to launch my blog until I have it all figured out.”
“I’m just waiting to create live videos until I feel more confident in my abilities.”
“I’m just waiting to start eating healthy until Monday so I can enjoy my weekend.”
“I’m just waiting to get involved in a church until my life is less chaotic on the weekends.”
Do any of these statements sound familiar to you? Because man, they do to me. In fact, these are statements that I have personally said on multiple occasions. Not even going to lie… I still struggle with these exact same thoughts. What you’re waiting to do & what you’re waiting for may be completely different, but the scenario is more than likely still the same.
Fill in the blanks here with the first thing that comes to your mind.
“I’m just waiting to ______________ until _______________.”
Now that probably sounds a little more familiar, doesn’t it? Even if you haven’t said this sentence out loud before, it probably is nothing short of the truth. Our subconscious is an amazing thing, isn’t it?
Here’s the truth about waiting.
You will always be waiting. Because the reason why you’re waiting will never come.
The only way to get yourself out of the waiting game & to actually see results is to get up and take action.
The truth is… our lives are always going to be unstable to an extent.
Monday always comes, but it comes awfully fast. So, you continue to put off learning healthy eating habits until Friday because you already messed up at dinner, so you need a couple of days to plan your meals & go grocery shopping. Then Friday comes and all you want to do is go out & have a couple of drinks with your friends. And then before you know it, it’s Monday again. And guess what… that healthy food you just bought… that delicious produce… has gone bad. So you decide to go through Chick-fil-A. But instead ordering of the grilled nuggets like you had originally planned, you get the #1 sandwich with colby jack cheese and bacon because the wine you had for dinner the night before is clouding your judgment. And then before you know it, you’re waiting for Monday… again.
That story may not sound familiar to you at all. Or perhaps it resonates with you more than you’d like to admit.
Unfortunately, that is a real-life scenario of mine. Not one of my best… especially because this scenario has occurred WAY more than I’d personally like to admit. But to make my point even more… remember that OTF weight loss challenge I didn’t finish? I told y’all about 5 out of 6 weeks of that challenge. That last week I never blogged about. Embarrassing but totally true.
Hear me out though. Since I have experienced this situation more than just a handful of times, I’ve finally come to the realization that the perfect Monday will never come.
This goes for anything you have been waiting on. Your life will never be perfect. We will never have the perfect scenario. There is always going to be something you’re waiting on. & that’s because you will never feel ready to start.
As humans, we will make every excuse in the book to keep us from moving forward. For example, in his book, The War of Art, Steven Pressfield calls this internal hindrance that keeps us from moving forward “Resistance.” I never quite understood why it was that I have always resisted doing the things I know I need to do… until I read this book. If you are struggling with Resistance yourself, I highly recommend giving this book a shot in order to bring you some more understanding. It’s a super quick read too.
But here’s the thing. Even when I’m on the verge of getting ready to stop waiting, it’s like the universe knows that I’m about to have a breakthrough.
That’s when all hell breaks loose.
Can anyone else relate to that? Because oh my gosh, it has happened to me so many times, it’s a little ridiculous.
Like HELLO… NOT FUNNY, UNIVERSE, NOT FUNNY.
And the reason why I’m mentioning this is that even if there is a time that it does feel right to make things happen… life is going to take a toll on you in one way or another to try and bring you down again.
But guess what.
Magical things happen when you stop waiting… even when times get tough.
So do tell. Is there anything you’ve been putting off? Get specific. I wanna know all the details.
